Welcome to Robeson County Humane Society's Friends for Life Animal Shelter. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping cats and dogs. We were founded to find loving homes for adoptable animals, and promote responsible pet ownership throughout the county with an emphasis on spaying and neutering.
The Robeson County Humane Society Friends for Life Shelter volunteers and staff provide care for adoptable dogs and cats that live there until appropriate forever homes are found for them. The Society also welcomes gifts of time, talent and treasure. There are many volunteer opportunities both at the shelter and with other Humane Society projects. Please call 738-8282 for more information.
What We're All About
- Our primary goal is to rescue and find appropriate placements for homeless animals.
- Adoptable & treatable animals that demonstrate no signs of aggression will remain at our facility until the right home is found for them.
- We believe in educating our community about responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals. We also practice progressive spay/neuterand adoption programs.
- Adoption applications are not necessarily approved on a first come, first served basis. Our goal is to find the right family for the right animal, and the right animal for the right family. Therefore, we reserve the right to approve applications that appear to be the best fit for both the adopter and the adoptee.

We will not knowingly place an animal that is unhealthy or aggressive into someone’s home.
Ways You Can Help Homless Cats and Dogs

- Make a donation of your time or volunteer, many opportunities are available, furnish needed supplies used at the center, make a onetime contribution or on a monthly basis.
- If you witness animal abuse contact Katherine Floyd the County Animal Abuse Investigator at (910) 608-2317
- Make sure your pet is always wearing an I.D. tag.
- Prepare a disaster plan that includes your pet.
- Make sure your pet is spayed or neutered.
- Think about adopting a pet—you could save a life!
- We can always use donations of litter and cleaning supplies such as bleach and dishwashing liquid.

More Ways to Help
Can you help us out by purchasing a dog bed for one of the homeless animals we've rescued?
There is no pallet, decking or blanket that can provide the longevity and comfort for a shelter dog that a Kuranda dog bed can. The raised design gives the dog a soft and dry place to relax off the wet, cold floor. The sturdy frame and solid vinyl fabric is non porous making it easy to sanitize with bleach or disinfectant. Kuranda beds are sturdy and built to last for years in a kennel environment.
Dogs enjoy the comfort of the raised hammock design of the bed and spend more time relaxing on their beds than pacing back and forth in the kennel run. Veterinarians recommend the orthopedic comfort of this bed as especially beneficial for healthy hips and joints and for dogs who suffer from hip problems and arthritis. They prevent ugly elbow calluses caused from lying on a hard floor. The height of the bed makes it is easier for elderly dogs to get up from the bed than from the hard floor. Hard plastic pallets and decking provide essentially no softness or comfort for the dogs.
