Welcome to the Robeson County Humane Society's Friends for Life Animal Shelter. We are a non-profit organization, dedicated to helping cats and dogs. We were founded to find loving homes for adoptable animals, and to promote responsible pet ownership throughout the county with an emphasis on spaying and neutering.

The staff and volunteers at the Robeson County Humane Society Friends for Life Shelter volunteers and staff provide care for adoptable dogs and cats who live there until appropriate "forever" homes are found for them. The Society also welcomes gifts of time, talent and treasure.  There are many volunteer opportunities, both at the Shelter and with other Humane Society projects.  Please call 910-738-8282 for more information.

What We're All About

  • Our primary goal is to rescue and find appropriate placements for homeless animals.
  • Adoptable and treatable animals who demonstrate no signs of aggression will remain at our facility until they are provided a suitable home.
  • We believe in educating the community regarding humane treatment of animals and responsible pet ownership, including the need for limiting unwanted litters. We also practice, as well as offer, progressive spay/neuter programs.
  • Adoption applications are not necessarily approved on a first come, first served basis.  Our goal is to match the right family with the right animal, and the right animal for the right family.  Therefore, we reserve the right to approve applications that appear to be the best fit for both the adopter and the animal.

More Ways to Help

Can you help us out by purchasing a dog bed for one of the homeless animals we have rescued?beds

There is no pallet, decking or blanket that can provide the longevity and comfort for a shelter dog like a Kuranda dog bed. The raised design gives the dog a soft, dry place on which to relax off the cold floor. The sturdy frame and solid vinyl fabric is non-porous, making it easier to sanitize with bleach or disinfectant. Kuranda beds are sturdy and are built to last for years in a kennel environment.

Dogs enjoy the comfort of the raised hammock design, spending more time relaxing on their beds instead of pacing back and forth in the kennel. Veterinarians recommend the orthopedic comfort of this bed as especially beneficial for healthy hips and joints and for those dogs who suffer from hip problems and arthritis. They prevent ugly elbow calluses caused from lying on a hard floor. The height of the bed makes it is easier for elderly dogs to get up from the bed than from the hard floor. Hard plastic pallets and decking provide little softness or comfort for the dogs.
